TIKTOK INSTRUCTION FOR BEGINNERS

TikTok Guide: Alongside Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, another social network has been causing a stir for some time now - with its funny clips, TikTok is taking the hearts of influencers and their fans by storm.

Want to get started with TikTok?

Then take a few minutes to read our TikTok tutorial. We'll show you how to create your profile, get your first fans, and give you some ideas on what clips you can shoot next. Have fun!

Create a TikTok account

1. download app and sign in

Go to the App Store / Google Play and download TikTok.

Once you open it, you can easily sign in with your existing Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account, or come up with a new username and password if you don't want to link your accounts to TikTok.

2. set up your profile

In the first few seconds after you log in to the app, you'll get to know the video feed.

Even though there are a lot of great clips waiting for you, you should take care of your profile first. To do this, click on the icon at the bottom of the bar that looks like a person.

In your profile overview, look for the "Edit profile" button. Here you have the option to change your profile photo or video, your username, and your TikTok bio.

Take your time and remember that other users often decide whether or not to follow you based on your profile.

TikTok Guide: Find your way around

In the bottom bar you will find all the important functions of TikTok.

Your video feed

Let's get to the core of TikTok: Your video feed!

You open it by tapping on the house icon. Since you're not following anyone yet, you'll only see random trending videos here.

The longer you use TikTok and the more users you follow, the more precisely the content is tailored to you.

So you can indirectly influence which videos are shown to you by liking, following, and commenting for all you're worth.

Understanding finger gestures in TikTok:

If you're using TikTok for the first time, the "controls" can be a bit confusing. Here are a few of the most important gestures:

Swipe down / up: This is how you view the next / previous videos in your feed.

Swipe right: You like a video and want to learn more about that particular TikToker? Then swipe to the right to get to his profile.

Tap the icons: For each video, you'll find 5 icons on the right. At the top you will see the profile of the TikToker. Here you can either click on the small plus to follow him or on the circle to view his profile. Below that are a heart to like, a speech bubble to comment, an arrow to share and a spinning record to get to the original sound.

Double tap: Tap a video in your feed twice in a row to light up a heart and signal that you like it. So it's no wonder why TikTokers regularly call you to tap the screen twice....

Press and hold: With this gesture, you can set your favorites, hide future TikToks from this user or with this sound, or signal the app that you don't like this type of video.

Let the app know which content you like... and which you don't.

TikTok Guide: Find videos or profiles

The "Discover" button takes you to the TikTok search overview. Here you can search for specific TikTokers or videos.

Enter a name or a search term, or watch TikToks on current trending topics.

Use the TikTok code

There is another way to find new profiles. And that is by scanning the TikTok code of the respective user.

Everyone has such a code and can use it to promote their TikTok channel in the real world.

You can find your own TikTok code by going to your profile and tapping on the three dots at the top right and then on the icon with the four squares

With your TikTok code, you will also find the option to scan other users' codes. Keep an eye out for codes in your area!

Edit your profile or settings

Your settings can do much more than just show you your TikTok code. Here you can set your privacy, turn your push notifications on and off, and much more.

Just take a look around your settings and find out how you can enjoy your TikTok even more.

For example, we recommend that you use TikTok's dark mode to save your eyesight.

Create your own TikToks

Use the "+" icon to create videos or upload a video from your gallery. The first time you want to create a video, you must first allow the app to access your camera.

  1. Choose a sound

Before you start, you should choose a sound to which you want to move your lips. Of course, you can use TikTok without a sound and create your own sound with some creativity, but for the beginning it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the art of lipsyncing.

  1. Set filters, timers, tempo, etc.

No, even at this point, it doesn't start yet. That's because the first thing you do is set the speed of your video or put a filter over your face. After all, you want to look as beautiful as possible in your TikTok. Only then do you press the red button in the middle of your screen and start recording.

  1. Post-processing

Tap on the red check mark in the bottom right corner to finish your recording. Afterwards you can choose some cool or funny effects. For example, you can make your eyes look bigger or your mouth smaller. Depending on how seriously you take yourself, you can go wild here....

  1. Bypass restrictions

Please note that TikTok only allows you to upload videos up to 15 seconds long. If you want to upload longer videos, record the video with your regular camera.

  1. Delete TikToks again

It can always happen that you accidentally upload videos that were not even finished editing. If this is the case, you should quickly go to your profile and tap on the unwanted TikTok. Now click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select the "Delete" option from the menu.

The best TikTok ideas for beginners

Anyone can move their lips to a popular song! Here are some tips on how to fill your TikTok with great content.

Get inspired by other TikTokers

If you come across a sound you like while scrolling through your feed, don't hesitate to try it out for yourself. Just tap on the sound plate at the bottom right to go to the sound and make your own TikTok to go with it. The fewer users who have already used this sound, the better. Regularly scroll through the clips of your favourite TikTok stars and imitate their style.

Movies your pets

  • What would the Internet be without its numerous animal videos?

So have your camera ready anytime your pet does something extra cute or crazy.

You can also try involving your pet in a challenge.

But always make sure that the welfare of your animal comes first. With animal cruelty you make yourself not only unpopular, but also punishable.

Take part in duets

Do you particularly like the video of another user?

Then take the opportunity to respond with your own video and show the TikToker what creative things you can do with his video.

With this feature, your screen is split in two. On one side you can see the video of the TikToker, on the other side your reaction.

To start a duet, press the share button and select "Duet".

TikTok Tutorial: Take part in a challenge

The longer you use TikTok, the more often you will come across so-called "challenges".

These challenges ask you to do something specific that is difficult or unusual in some way.

A few years ago, for example, the Ice Bucket Challenge spread on social networks, asking users to either pour a bucket of water with ice cubes over their heads or donate to a foundation for a specific nerve disease, in which patients suffer from precisely this feeling and are often unable to move.

If you participate in such a challenge, don't forget to use the respective hashtag so that other users can find your video in the first place.

TikTok Tutorial: Convert TikToks to Gifs

If you particularly like a video, you can also convert it to a GIF to post on other social networks.

A GIF is a special image format where the TikTok repeats in an endless loop. However, you should note that GIFs do not allow sound. So if your TikTok isn't as funny without sound, a GIF of it won't do you much good.

To save the TikTok with sound, you need to email it to yourself. To do this, tap Share again and then select your email program.

Finally, a few tips to gain fans on TikTok:

Post regularly and try your hand at it. If you only upload one video every few weeks, your chances of getting many followers are very slim. You also need to find out for yourself what format you (and your followers) like best.

Network with other TikTokers. Have a friend who's been using TikTok for a while and has more followers than you? Ask him or her to record a clip with you and link your TikTok account.

Use your other social channels. It's a big step to share your TikToks on other platforms. However, it's also the easiest and fastest way to get more followers. Provided, of course, you already have a few subscribers on Facebook, Twitter and the like.

Be brave. TikTok videos thrive on exaggeration. The wackier, the better. You should learn not to take yourself so seriously and be prepared to make a fool of yourself.
